The festival selection meeting will be on Wednesday, November 6th at Sanford Junior High at 3:00pm.
Please make sure that your nomination sheet is submitted to your manager before then. If we do not hear from you before November 5th, we will assume you are not participating this year.

York County Junior High Music Festival Guidelines
-The dates for the Festival will be the Friday and Saturday before February vacation.
-Chorus, Band, and Orchestra Managers will select conductors. Conductors will be paid a fee of $300. (2-2000)
-Piano accompanists will be paid $150.
-The Festival will be open to all Junior High/Middle Schools in York County. If a school district consists of several towns, some of which are not in York County, then the junior high must be physically located in York County or the majority of towns in the school must be in York County. (2-2003)
-Only seventh and eighth graders will participate in this Festival.
- Students participating in the Festival must be a member of a York County middle/junior high school instrumental, choral or string program. String players who attend schools without a string program or are home schooled may be nominated by their private teachers.
-The selection meeting for the Festival will be held the first week of November, usually at Kennebunk Middle School. Schools will be notified in the fall of the exact location, date, and time of this meeting by the Treasurer and the managers. All directors must submit a list of nominated students to their manager prior to this meeting. Each school must submit a list and/ or attend this meeting or they will not be included in the Festival that year. Directors should notify their manager ahead of time if they will not attending the selection meeting.
-The concert will begin at 3:00 p.m. and admission will be $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students with a cap of $15.00 for immediate Family (2-2006).
-Sectionals without conductors will be held from 2:30 - 5:00 on Friday afternoon. Music directors will lead these sectionals.
-Students will bring a bag lunch for Saturday. The host school will provide drinks and snacks for sale.
-Cost will be $10.00 per student. (2-2000)
-Students will wear appropriate concert dress for the concert. Concert dress is a skirt, dress or dress pants for girls and nice pants, light shirt and tie for boys. Shoes should be the best shoes the student has (not white sneakers). Black jeans are acceptable for boys (not blue jeans).
-The host school will receive a fee for hosting the Festival. The fee will be either $500. or the amount left in the checkbook over $3,400. after all bills have been paid, whichever is greater (2-07).
-All studentsʼ fees must be paid two weeks before the Festival (by January 18). Schools must pay for each student accepted, whether they attend or not, unless they notify the band, chorus or string manager by January 10. Schools who do not pay all of their students fees will not be asked to the Festival again (2-97).
-When a school has not paid its registration fees, the Treasurer will send a letter to that schoolʼs music directors and principal stating that they will not be allowed to attend the Festival again until they have submitted their money. Schools owing money to the Festival must have their debt cleared up by November 1 in order to participate in that yearʼs Festival.
-Students who have been accepted to the Festival must participate for both days of the Festival. If a student can only attend for one day he/she will be replaced unless there is an emergency up to 5 days before the Festival. Teachers should notify their managers if a situation like this arises (2-99).
-The budget for the band and chorus music will be $500. each and the orchestra budget will be $250. Managers will tell conductors to pick two selections from the music library to stay within this budget. If that is not possible, managers must borrow music from other schools to stay within the budget (2-98).
-Only regularly enrolled members of a school sponsored vocal or instrumental ensemble or school approved private study may audition for and participate in this music Festival, unless no such organization or private study exists in their school. The student must be considered a member in good standing of their local music program by their sponsoring school music teacher.
